Military personnel invited to free lunch
In honor of Veterans Day, the Carson Valley Inn is serving a free spaghetti lunch Friday for all veterans and active military – plus one guest – from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Valley Ballroom. Veterans and active military personnel will be asked to simply present a military ID for entrance, and lunch is provided by the Carson Valley Inn.
There will also be a Veterans Day presentation of colors, the National Anthem and an invocation at 11 a.m. in the Carson Valley Inn parking lot, under the electronic sign on Highway 395.
The spaghetti feed idea began a few months ago when CVI’s entertainment director, Stew Stewart, and the director of casino operations and marketing, Joey Whitacre, were discussing the unique 11-11-11 date for Veterans Day this year. Stewart, a Vietnam War veteran, suggested that the Inn do something special to honor veterans. The presentation of colors at 11 a.m. will be led by the Douglas High School Junior ROTC Color Guard, with accompaniment by representatives of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Nevada Air National Guard. The National Anthem will be sung by ANG Master Sgt. Rick Hays who, in his non-military hours, leads Rick Hays and American Steel.
