Meet Mono County candidates
I’ve learned of two good opportunities to meet all the candidates for Mono County office, so I hope you’ll take advantage of one of them.
Saturday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a political picnic at Bridgeport Memorial Hall, sponsored by the Mono County Republican Central Committee. In addition to a chance to hear from the candidates, they will have hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, ice cream and pie for sale.
Friday, Oct. 1, 6 p.m. at the Walker Community Center, the Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce is also having a Candidates Night for the Mono County races.
Local health issues
Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1-3:30 p.m. county health nurse Carolyn will be at the Walker Senior Center to give flu shots. You can get the shots from her that will vaccinate against the three varieties of flu. If you can’t make it that day, she will also be there Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 1-2 p.m. with vaccinations.
I received a press release from the Mono County Public Health Officer, advising that a Swainson’s hawk picked up in Topaz tested positive for West Nile virus infection. This is the first positive confirmation of the virus in Mono County this year, so be aware.
Coleville High School football
The boys have really been on a tear in the last two weeks. After winning their first league game by a score of 64-26 on Aug. 28, they have followed up the next two weeks with wins against Wells (60-6) and Virginia City by a score of 76-40. Keep on going, guys. Their next home game will be Saturday, Oct. 2, 1 p.m., against Smith Valley. It’s a lot of fun at the games, so try to get out to see one.
This and that
On Sept. 10 Ed Walton celebrated his 93rd birthday. Of those 93 years, he has lived 47 in the Antelope Valley. Happy birthday, Ed, with special wishes from your family.
A very special happy birthday wish goes to my husband, Mike, on Sept. 25.
