Main Street Event coming Aug. 20-21
Hear those sounds of the ’50s in the distance? Elvis cars cruisin’ Main Street?
If you don’t, you soon will, for the Valley Cruisers Car Club Association is in the midst of planning for the group’s annual Main Street Event.
Main Street Event ’99 begins Friday, Aug. 20, on Esmeralda Avenue in Minden with registration and hangin’ out 5:30 to 10 p.m. A barbecue steak or chicken dinner is planned at 5 p.m., and a street dance with live music will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $10 for dinner.
On Saturday, Aug. 21, a show of cars will be featured at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. The day begins with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Lampe Park pavilion. The show and shine begins at 10 a.m., and Time Warp Music will offer music with a DJ from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost to enter the show and shine is $20.
Raffles on the hour will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a special drawing will be held at 3:30 p.m. Cruisin’ Main Street takes place at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 22, at Lampe, a pancake breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. A poker run is set for 8:30 to 10 a.m., and the show and shine continues from 8 a.m. to noon.
Awards in various categories will be made at noon.
Pancake breakfast each day costs $3.50 for adults and $1.50 for children. The poker run costs $5 per hand. Raffle tickets are $1 each, and various memorabilia range in price from $2 for a hat pin, $5 for a mug to $15 and $17 for T-shirts. A dash plaque is $3.
A full weekend events package with the Friday night barbecue is $65, and without dinner, $55. The public is welcome to watch the cars go by during both evenings of “cruisin’ Main.”
