Letter: Oil prices
So Douglas County wants to raise the gas tax again. Don’t they ever look at what the price of gasoline is right now? Tad Dunbar on Channel 8 said the other day that we are paying 8 cents over the national average for a gallon of gasoline. I don’t know where his figures come from. Just about two weeks ago on the ABC nightly news they showed a Flying “J” service station in Minnesota selling gasoline at $1.21 a gallon. Minnesota is by no means the cheapest state to buy gasoline.
I don’t need a calculator to figure out that we are paying far more than 8 cents over the national average. Before asking the public for another tax increase on gasoline, wouldn’t it be a lot fairer to stop the oil companies from being so discriminatory in pricing their product?
