Letter: Almost full
I see that the county planning staff reports that the Douglas County population increased to 43,301 ending in 2000 (a 56 percent increase in 10 years) and that the current master plan, cognizant of uncertain water resources, contemplates a population build-out of 50,000 people.
Wow, room for only 6,699 more people! How many subdivisions does that translate into? And what do we do if that many folks have already moved in since the census count?
I’ll bet the newly arriving big-box stores privately project a far greater population than 50,000. I hope the anti-sprawl forces are able to disappoint them.
