Candy makers wanted

The Town of Genoa seeks volunteers to help make candy for the 90th annual Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire, held on Sept. 25-26. Candy making begins 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday, and continues 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday through Sept. 15. Volunteer information, Genoa Town Offices, 782-8696.

Kick up your heels at ball

The Cow County Ball is 6-10 p.m. Saturday at the Corley Ranch, 859 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Dance music by Rick Hays & American Steel, chuck wagon grub by the Gourmet Cowboy, silent auction, raffle and hosted bar. Cost is $50 per person, $60 at door, $375 for table of 8 and kids under 15 eat free. Proceeds benefit Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans and the Domestic Violence Victim’s Assistance Project, to provide free civil legal services to low-income people and victims of domestic violence living in rural Nevada. Kids & Horses host tack sale, barbecue this weekend

The Kids & Horses tack sale is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, and a community play day and complimentary barbecue is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, at the ranch, 2869 Esaw St., Minden. Information, or (775) 771-5512.

Piano concert Sunday

Seattle recording artist and pianist John Nilsen plays a concert of folk, jazz, classical music and traditional hymns, 2 p.m. Sunday, at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. There will be a free will offering. Information, 782-4600.
