High Sierra Fellowship hosts Thanksgiving meal

by Caryn Haller

As a way of reaching out to the community, High Sierra Fellowship is hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner Saturday.

Dinner will be served 2 to 5 p.m. at 1701 Lucerne Street in Minden.

“The churches are supposed to reach out. I think we need to help people,” organizer Suzanne Lammay said. “I am a Christian and I believe the Bible teaches us to reach out to those who are lonely, needy, destitute, just in need.”

Lammay said through donations from the community and congregation, they have enough food for 200 people.

“Thanksgiving can be a lonely time for people. We’re trying to reach people who don’t have anybody,” Lammay said. “We have no idea what to expect. That’s where we’re relying on God. If there are people in line and we have food, we’ll serve them.”

Entertainment of crafts and stories will be provided for children, and adults will receive a gift as well.

“I encourage people to come because there’s many in the church having financial difficulties, so we’re no different,” Lammay said. “It’s our way of extending Jesus to people because he loves all people unconditionally. It’s our way of letting people know they are cared for.”
