Great support for ‘Haunted Weekend’

Laurie Hickey
Haunted Weekend chairwoman

Douglas County Historical Society’s “Haunted Weekend” was a success thanks to all of you who attended. We appreciate your support for this fun historical and educational event. “Haunted Weekend” is not only a fundraiser for the historical society but has become a tourism venue that brings out of the area visitors to Carson Valley. This year we had several visitors from the Sacramento Valley that attended. These visitors stay in local hotels, dine locally and buy gas for the trip home. “Haunted Weekend” not only brings need money to the historical society but helps the local economy.

We want to thank our wonderful partners the Historian Inn, Holiday Inn Express, The New Rancho Grande and Tombstone Tap and Grill for their support. We hope they will consider working with us again in the future.

This year’s “Haunted Minden Ghost Walk” featured the 100th anniversary of the CVIC Hall and Minden Park. This event would not have been possible without the support of the Town of Minden and our great presenters Dan Hickey, Dianna Borges and Linda Reid; they did a marvelous job.

I want to thank the Northern Nevada Ghost Hunters for the investigation Friday night at Rancho Grande. They also conducted a ghost hunting workshop on Saturday morning and an Investigation after the cemetery tour at the Courthouse Museum. Northern Nevada Ghost Hunters are a nonprofit group that provides their services free of charge to anyone that may need them including the Douglas County Historical Society. All these events were sold out, fun and very informative. Next year if you want to attend one of these events, get your tickets early.

The “Haunted Genoa Cemetery Tour” was a huge success thanks to the Genoa Cemetery Association and the wonderful ghost Dave Thomas as Judge John Cradlebaugh, Commissioner Mike Olson as Snowshoe Thompson, and Linda Reid as Harriet Walley, Jo Rafferty and Jack Carrerow as Sarah Jane and Stephen Kinsey, Dianna Borges as the mysterious French seamstress.

Last but not least the nine FFA members who did a wonderful job as guides along with several adults, this event would not be possible without all these great volunteers

Last but not least the wonderful coverage The Record-Courier gives us not just for this event but every event that depends on publicity. Thank you for all your help. We couldn’t do it without you.
