Goodbye to summer
It was a busy summer at the Douglas County Public Library. Hundreds of readers signed up for our summer reading programs: “Make a Splash – READ @ your library” for children and “Make Waves @ your library” for teens.
The generosity of the local business community was incredible.
The Carson Valley Swim Center provided swim passes for all participants.
Pizza Barn donated gift certificates for our Lego contest.
Round Table Pizza donated personal-sized pizzas to all who completed the programs. Walmart donated our grand prize of a $50 gift card. Cash donations were made by Maxton Manufacturing, Perma-Cal Industries, Inc., and Re/Max Realty Affiliates. The Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley received a grant for children’s books to be used as prizes.
Thank you to all of the community volunteers who gave their time to make the summer reading programs a success. Their assistance with the program from giving out prizes, to helping with special events and much more was invaluable.
We thank the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department for the use of Lampe Park for summer storytime, and the Town of Minden for the use of the CVIC Hall. The Record-Courier and its staff did a great job publicizing the library’s special events. We couldn’t function without the help of the Friends of Douglas County Library.
They fund things we need from prizes to programs. The Friends sponsored the Fratello Marionettes, “Bubble Lady,” Lego Contest, and Pirate party. Thank you to the educators and school librarians who promoted the program to their students. Thank you to all of these people and businesses for enriching the lives of Douglas County children. The library could not have run such a well-received program without you.
Congratulations to the 421 finishers of the children’s “Make A Splash-READ @ your library” program and the 118 teens who read 371,037 pages during the “Make Waves @your library” teen program. What an accomplishment for each of you.
