Genoa is kicking off Christmas at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 in downtown Genoa.

“It’s a traditional event the town has been doing for years,” said Sheryl Gonzales, Genoa’s town manager. “It makes Genoa unique.”

As manager, Gonzales is in charge of the event, as well as the volunteers who help out, year after year.

As tradition holds, there will be the annual tree lighting at 6 p.m., caroling in the town church at 5 p.m., and Santa will arrive in a truck.

Cookies, hot chocolate, and coffee will be served on the corner of Main and Nixon streets.

Christmas continues in Genoa the following morning with Breakfast with Santa 8:30-11 a.m. in the Community Center.

This year, there will be two seatings, with around 180 people admitted per seating. The first seating will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and the second seating will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Tickets are $5 per person. Children 2 and under are free.

“We had so many people waiting in line last year,” said Gonzales.

At the breakfast, kids will be able to visit with Santa, as well as write letters to Santa.

Pancakes, sausages, orange juice, hot chocolate, and coffee will be served.
