Gardnerville kicks off Christmas

Staff Reports

What began as a small event to celebrate the building of the Heritage Park pavilion seven years ago, has grown into an annual community event complete with bell ringers and a light show.

The Town of Gardnerville’s “Carson Valley Christmas Season Kick Off” is 5:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Heritage Park pavilion.

“Come and have a good time. See Santa and enjoy an old-fashioned holiday celebration,” said Carol Louthan, Town of Gardnerville office manager.

This free family-oriented event features a musical light show, the Sierra Ringers from the Carson Valley United Methodist Church and a quartet singing a selection of holiday music. The Town will be serving hot chocolate, hot spiced cider and Dutch oven cobblers.

During the minute-and-a-half light show hundreds of lights will dance to the song “Winter Wonderland” by Alexia Phillips.

The Heritage Park pavilion will be lit for the holiday season, and Santa Claus will be on hand to welcome children young and old. Carriage rides around the park will also be offered while visitors enjoy the music and holiday treats.

Heritage Park is located on Gilman Avenue on the way to Chichester. Turn east at the stoplight at Sharkey’s Casino off Highway 395. For more information, contact the Town offices, 782- 7134.
