Explore Carson Valley’s haunted past during Haunted Weekend
Autumn brings crisp nights, brilliant leaves, pumpkins, football and Thanksgiving. It is also the season when spirits from the past can be found in the shadows, on the streets and in the cemeteries of Carson Valley for the Douglas County Historical Society’s Haunted Weekend on Oct. 21-24.
This year’s adventures begin with the Haunted Minden Ghost Walk on Oct. 21. Tours are $5 per person and depart at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for a walking tour of historic and haunted sites in Minden.
The Haunted Gardnerville Ghost Walk is Oct. 22. Tours are $5 per person and depart at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. from the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville for a walking tour of some of the historic and haunted sites in Gardnerville.
If you’re dying to take a tour of Nevada’s oldest cemetery, go to the Haunted Mottsville Cemetery Tour, 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 23. Guided tours depart about every 15 minutes. Cost is $5 per person. Mottsville Cemetery is all that remains of the Emigrant Trail settlement of Mottsville. The first school in Nevada was held in the Mott kitchen and the first session of the US District Court of the third District of Utah Territory was held in the Mott barn.
The Haunted Genoa Ghost Walk is Oct. 24 in historic Genoa. The one and only tour departs at 11 a.m. from the Genoa Courthouse Museum on Main Street.
Tickets are $5 per person. Step back in time as you learn about the early settlers in Nevada’s first permanent settlement. Of course you will learn about hangings, murders and suicides.
