Douglas High kids are great
We could fill an entire newspaper with nothing but news from Douglas High School and not report a single kid in trouble.
With 1,544 students, the school is about half the population of the Town of Minden when it is in session. In fact it gets a little lonely over the holidays when Douglas shuts down.
For all the complaints about students zipping in and out for lunch, a little timing makes them easy enough to dodge and businesses surrounding the campus benefit from their presence.
And for the most part those students are looking for ways to contribute. About 50 different clubs and activities operate within the confines of the school, which would make it difficult to name them all.
All of us take pride in the incredible athletic program Douglas has developed, bringing home honors from near and far.
And the Fighting Tiger band has had its share of successes, including its tournament win last month. So has the speech and debate team.
But the Tigers have been on the prowl in other ways, including general good works around our community.
The Block D group is organizing blood drives and when The Record-Courier needed help with its Carson Valley Cares, the Block D kids were there to help.
On Wednesday members of the student government handed out Starbucks cups as a gift to every student on campus.
We can all be proud of our high school and wish them well on this last day of school before Christmas break.
