Community concert sings in Wednesday

Staff Reports

Joyful Noise, a community Christmas concert, returns a fourth year to the C.V.I.C. Hall of Minden. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and offers something for all ages and musical tastes. Take a break from shopping to bring your family and friends for a heart-warming evening of joy.

Unity Church of Today Chorus will sing traditional carols and pop Christmas songs, while special musical guests “jazz” some Christmas tunes. Scott Marshall returns with his stand-up bass and captivating bass vocals. Who will lead the infamous Christmas conga line this year? Could be you.

The show invites audience participation and includes children, followed by hot cider and holiday treats for all. Cherie and John Shipley of Lake Tahoe Entertainment, produce the concert for area families to attend each year. John Shipley provides the music and special arrangements while Cherie emcees and leads the chorus in a delightful evening of inspiring Christmas classics. The Shipleys are long-time professional musicians in Northern Nevada. Admission is a love offering at the door.

John Shipley is also arranging and directing the music for Tahoe Players Christmas show “Snow White,” produced in cooperation with Washoe Public Schools and open to the public Dec. 18 in the Reno Hilton. John also served as musical director to dozens of Harrah’s shows over the years. They bring a variety of other gifted area performers and musicians each year to this annual holiday extravaganza.
