Carson Valley residents observe Veterans Day

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Marines will gather downstairs in the Douglas County Sheriff’s training room to observe the 236th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The ceremony features coffee and birthday cake. All current and former Marines and family members are welcome at the observation being hosted by Alternative Sentencing Chief Mike Beam and Undersheriff Paul Howell. n Scarselli Elementary School. All veteran or active-duty soldiers, sailors, pilots or Marines are invited to the school’s annual Veterans Day Assembly 10 a.m. Thursday in the school’s multipurpose room, with a reception immediately following. Scarselli is located at 699 Long Valley Road, Gardnerville Ranchos.

n Gardnerville Elementary School. Annual Veterans Day assembly is 9 a.m. Thursday in the multipurpose room. Refreshments at 8:30 a.m. in the teachers lounge. All veterans welcome. GES is located at 1290 Toler Lane, Gardnerville. Information, Robbi Jacobsen 782-5117

n Senior Center. Annual USO Celebration is 10:30 to noon Thursday followed by lunch. Military memorabilia will be on display, as well as guest speakers and music. n Carson Valley United Methodist Church. Included in the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13 services will be a slideshow presentation featuring photos of veterans associated with the church . The Chancel Choir will perform “An American Trilogy,” a combination of “Dixie,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “All My Trials.” At 7 p.m. Nov. 13 the movie “Last Flight Home” that documents the story of Dr. Scannon’s work finding missing World War II aircraft and the MIAs associated with them in Palau.
