Columnist at DCRW meeting

The Douglas County Republican Women will hear speaker and columnist Nancy Dallas at the group’s meeting today at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. Social hour is at 11 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch at noon. Cost is $15. All Republican men and women from Douglas County are welcome. Town meeting

The Minden Town Board will meet today, 6 p.m., 1604 Esmeralda Ave., Minden. On the agenda is discussion and possible action to amend the ordinance governing trash and garbage collection regarding the disposal of toxic or other dangerous materials and a discussion and possible action to review and amend the ordinance governing water service involving fees and service areas and regulations for water line extensions. GRGID

The Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District Board of Trustees will meet today, 6 p.m., at the district’s office, 931 Mitch Dr., Ranchos. On the agenda are an update on a sewer agreement with the Washoe Tribe and GRGID with possible action and acceptance of ownership of a detention pond at Silveranch subdivision. Workshop

The Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living Fallon office will host a grant-writing workshop Feb. 8 and 9 at the old high school building in Fallon 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Pool to close

The Carson Valley Swim Center will be closed for a Douglas Dolfin Swim Meet Feb. 9, 4 p.m. to closing, and Feb. 10 and 11, all day. Swim lessons will be held on Friday afternoon. Information, 782-8841.

Registration

Carson Valley Little League will hold registration Feb. 10, 9 a.m.-noon at Gardnerville Elementary School, 111 Toler Ave., Gardnerville. All players must supply photocopies of their birth certificates. Information, Debbie Jacobsen, 782-7303.

Radio show

Pat Orcutt, pilot, will be the guest on Around Douglas with Jane Lehrman KGVM-FM radio show, Feb. 10 at 8:25 a.m. and Feb. 11 at noon.

Library event

The Douglas County Public Library Foundation will hold a fund-raiser honoring the memory of Elizabeth “Liz” Johnson, a friend of Nevada libraries. SNRW to hear Rocha

The Sierra Nevada Republican Women will meet at Two Guys from Italy Feb. 14, social, 11:30 a.m., luncheon, noon. Guy Rocha, state administrator for archives and records, will speak. Church speaker

Hilltop Community Church will host David P. Dolan, Christian broadcast journalist, in a special one-night engagement Feb. 14, 7 p.m. The public is invited and admission is free. The event will be held at Jacks Valley Elementary School on Jacks Valley Road. Dolan is traveling across the U.S., speaking in several major cities and discussing the most recent events taking place in Israel and the Middle East. Information, 267-3020.

Crab feed

The Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge will hold its annual “All You Can Eat” Crab Feed Feb. 17 at the CVIC Hall in Minden, beginning with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at about 6:30 p.m. A steak and salad option will be available by advance reservation. Potluck

Senior center dance

People may dance to the music of “Reminisce” Feb. 17, 7-10 p.m., Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane. Admission is $3 per person. Public is invited (must be 21 years of age).

Bingo

Douglas County Senior Services at the senior center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville, will hold a Bingo party Feb. 18. Doors will open at noon and early bird games start at 1 p.m. Regular games start at 1:30 p.m. Young at Heart Bingo is open to the public (must be 18 years or older). Nurse

A public health nurse from the Mono County Health Department will conduct general clinics including blood pressure screening Feb. 21, noon-2 p.m., at the Antelope Senior Center in Walker.

Lincoln Day Dinner

The Douglas County Republican Central Committee will hold its annual Lincoln Day Dinner Feb. 11, Carson Valley Inn, with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Guest speaker is Gov. Driver’s program

Carson Valley AARP Chapter #3683 will sponsor an AARP Driver Safety Program Feb. 28, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m, Minden Medical Center, Highway 395 and Ironwood Drive, Minden. The course is an eight-hour refresher session dealing with normal age-related physical changes, rules of the road, safety precautions and other awareness situations facing all drivers. The course fee is $10. Participants will receive a certificate good for three years. State law mandates that insurance companies grant an appropriate discount to seniors for class participation. Contact your insurance company for policies and procedures. Classes are by reservation and early reservations are advised. AARP membership is not required. Hearings

The 2001-2002 Douglas County board of equalization hearings have been scheduled for Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the county commissioners meeting room, old courthouse, 1616 8th St., Minden.

DCCA-TV board

The public is invited to attend the Douglas County Community Access Television board of directors’ meeting Feb. 13, 3:30 p.m., Minden Inn, Room 102 (1594 Esmeralda Ave., Minden). DCCA-TV is a non-profit organization which provides community access television in Douglas County. Information, 782-6010.

Minden-Tahoe airport

The Minden-Tahoe Airport advisory committee meeting and safety meeting and dinner will be held Feb. 13. The committee meeting will be held at 5 p.m., the safety meeting will be held at 6 p.m., and the dinner will be held at 7 p.m., Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395, Minden. Speaker Dick Angelo of the FAA will talk about runway incursions, and speakers Brad Heuberger and Anders Field will talk about development of the airport’s southwest 87 acres. Fly casters

Pool board

The East Fork Swimming Pool District Board of Trustees meeting will be held Feb. 22, 7:30 a.m., at the Carson Valley Swim Center, 1600 Highway 88, Minden. On the agenda is discussion of a proposal to add three new pieces of exercise equipment. The board is seeking public comment, pro and con, for this proposal. Also on the agenda is a presentation of an informal survey on the swim center presented by board member Gary Diederich and a review of five-year capital improvement plan. Information, 782-8841.

Dance

Shrine Circus

The Carson Valley Shrine Club and area Masonic lodges are planning to take children aged 12 and under

Concert

There is no admission charge for a concert by the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra conducted by Danny Yale Feb. 11, 5 p.m., CVIC Hall, Minden. The band will play music from Broadway, “The King and I,” “The Mikado” and other favorites. Featured soloist is Maria Arrigotti. Soft drinks and wine will be available. Donations accepted.
