As a Douglas High School band parent, I would like to thank the community for its support in helping to raise money to send the high school band to Washington, D.C. This shows a great backing for the fine arts program in our community. This is such a great opportunity for our children to learn about our government and the outside communities. For some students, this is the first time they are flying. The greatest thing about the show of support is that it shows how important the music program is to our community. We really need to support our music program, get it back to our elementary schools and grow again in this department. Think of how many more students could have represented the state of Nevada and Douglas County had the music program not changed so many years ago, discouraging a lot of potential musicians from participating in a wonderful program.
I would also like to say a big thank you to Mr. Zabelsky. This is my second son to participate in the school band program with DHS. The time and energy Mr. Zabelsky pours into the music program shows in our band students as they win award after award. I am proud of the whole band. I would also like to say thank you to the past music teachers of these students. They were truly instrumental in developing these young musicians and giving them their start. Thank you again.
