August Douglas County Parks & Recreation class schedule

Lil Ninjas

Ages 4 to 9 will learn in a disciplined, but fun environment the martial arts, performing arts, gymnastics, grappling and self defense. Class will be 4:45-5:45 p.m. Wednesdays or 3:45-4:45 p.m. Thursdays. Introductory cost is $49 per month plus insurance fees.

Flips and TrioTumbling

Ages 6 to 17 will focus of proper form, floor skills, trampoline, flips, tricks, strength and coordination. Class will be 4:30-5:15 p.m. Tuesdays or 5:30-6:15 p.m. Thursdays . Introductory cost is $49 per month plus insurance fees.

Historical Fencing

In this class for ages 13 and up, students will learn the basic techniques of renaissance swordsmanship. Class will be 6:30- 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 8-22 at Lampe Park. Cost is $15.

Dog Obedience

Learn to establish good conduct and curb bad habits and help you teach basic commands. Class held 7-8 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 1-Sept.1 at Carson Valley Middle School. Cost is $80.

Ditch the Diet

This fun and informative class for ages 13 and up is designed to teach the benefits of blood sugar stabilization and its role in achieving life long weight management and optimal health. Class will be 7-9 p.m Aug. 10 at the recreation annex building. Class is $20.

Worm Bin

Learn how to start a composting worm bin. Class held 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the recreation annex building. Cost is $25.

Culinary Classes

Chef Patrick Henry will show you secrets to enjoy in your kitchen. Class size is limited so sign up early. Class is offered 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, or 2-4 p.m. Thursdays. Aug. 7and 9, Chinese Chow, Aug. 14 and 16, Appetizer Night, Aug. 21 and 23, Barcelona Night. Cost is $50 per class.

Scrapbook All-Day Crop

This is the perfect opportunity for family photo historians to start a book or get a project finished. This workshop will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Senior Center. Cost is $10, water and snacks are included.

Concealed Weapon Certification

This course will cover the requirements for Nevada State CCW and can be taken by CCW applicants or anyone wanting to learn to shoot handguns. Class will be taught 6-9:30 p.m. July 18 and 20 at the Recreation Annex building and 8-11a.m. July 21 at Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost is $90 plus an additional $10 insurance fee payable to the instructor. Spouses are half price.

Beginner’s Tai Chi

Learn this soft martial arts form that will include warm ups, exercises and repetitions. Class will be Saturdays and is on going. Cost is $5 per month.
