Musical theater class

TOAD presents master classes with choreographer Erin McDowell on Saturday at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Concert Saturday at CVIC Hall

The Carson Valley Arts Council’s concert series continues with the Acadian band Vishten, Saturday, at the CVIC Hall in Minden. ‘Jimmy Dean’ auditions in February

Carson Valley Community Theatre holds auditions Feb. 23 and Feb. 26 for their spring production of “Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean” by Ed Graczyk.

This adult comedy/drama is set in 1955 and 1975 and involves five adults who reunite with their alter-ego teenaged selves in a small Texas town for the 20th anniversary of the death of James Dean. The 11-member cast includes a 60ish female, five 40ish females, four female teenagers, one male teenager.

Ballroom, square dancing courses offered

Artists sought for cowboy festival

Western, cowboy, and Southwest Indian artists are invited to participate in art galleries during the Genoa Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival on May 5-8. The juried art show begins with a preview reception followed by two days of gallery shows where the artists’ works are offered for sale. The jurying fee is $20. After being accepted in the jurying process, the gallery fee is $125.

Audition workshop Saturday

An audition workshop for the Wild Horse Children’s Theater spring production of “Honk! Jr.,” a musical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling,” is 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The workshop is geared toward students age 8 and older who are newcomers to theater. Learn audition tips on cold readings, choreography, choosing and singing songs and improvisation. Cost is $25. Winter art show at BAC

The Nevada Artists Association’s 60th annual winter show is Jan. 17 through March 4 at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery, 449 W. King St., Carson City. The show features paintings, photography, sculpture, fine crafts and jewelry of 136 area and regional artists. All artwork on exhibit is for sale. Meet the artists, enjoy food and libations and view artwork at a reception, 6-8 p.m. Jan. 22, at the gallery. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
