Angel Trees appearing around the Valley
Volunteers for Project Santa Claus are getting ready for the holidays. For the 22nd year, Angel Trees have sprouted up all over Douglas County to sponsor a child for Christmas. The child’s first name, age, hobbies, clothes size and Christmas wish list are included on each tag.
The wrapped gifts should be returned to the Angel Tree location by Dec. 15. If unable to get to an Angel Tree location, unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at the fairgrounds after Dec. 15. The gifts will be distributed to the families a few days before Christmas by a team of Project Santa Claus volunteers.
Last year, 845 children from 395 Douglas County families were given Christmas presents, and organizers said they are expecting to have close to 900 children signed up this year.
Volunteers are needed to help organize and wrap gifts Dec. 15, 19 and 20 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
The Project Santa Claus program helps provide Christmas gifts to Douglas County children in need, who are qualified through Douglas County Social Services, Washoe Tribal Social Services, the Family Support Council, CASA and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Project Santa Claus is not affiliated with Toys for Tots. Cash donations are accepted to be used for the purchase of gifts or books.
Contributions are tax deductible under Carson Valley Kiwanis Foundation, an IRS 501 (c)(3) organization.
Monetary donations may be mailed to Project Santa Claus at P.O. Box 3031, Gardnerville, NV. 89410.
