All Service Club Prayer Breakfast honors Sharkey
The service clubs of the Carson Valley will be honoring Milos “Sharkey” Begovich at its third annual All Service Club Prayer Breakfast.
The full breakfast buffet will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church Pastoral Center, 1343 Centerville Lane, and the public is invited.
Father John Corona, Pastor Tom Windsor, Father Shep Curtis, and Rabbi Krishiver will be the speakers posthumously honoring Sharkey at this year’s event.
Sharkey, considered somewhat of a local folk legend in the Carson Valley, was active in numerous community events, and has unselfishly given to youths, seniors, service organizations and needy in the community for more than 30 years.
The first year’s honoree was Douglas County Sheriff, Ron Pierini.
Last year’s recipients were Dave and Diane Gamble of the City of Refuge.
The goal of the clubs hosting the event (Rotary, Minden Fortnightly, Soroptimist International, Kiwanis, and Sertoma) is to honor individuals or organizations that have made a significant impact in our community. The event is designed to bring the community together. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Douglas County Search and Rescue.
Tickets are $15, available at both Stor-All locations at 1456 Industrial Way, Gardnerville (782-3533) and at 813 Short Ct., Gardnerville (265-3533) or John Hamer at ITILDO, 1625 Main St., Minden (782-2205) or from any member of the sponsoring service clubs.
