Alex Gumm up for dancing award
Minden resident Alex Gumm is nominated for a Fans Of Reno Tahoe Entertainers award in the Hip Hop, Pop Lock, Breaker and Street Performer.
Brother to 2016 Miss Nevada Bailey Gumm and 2017 Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen Carli Gumm, Alex has performed in the Pinkerton Ballet Theatre production of “The Nutcracker.”
He was the salutatorian with the ASPIRE Academy’s second graduating class in 2015.
Tickets went on sale Aug. 23 for the Nov. 2 gala at the Grand Theatre of the Grand Sierra Resort and are available through the GSR Box Office, forteawards.com and Ticketmaster.

Austin’s House will benefit from this year’s third annual Intero Chili Cook-off on Nov. 3.
Organizer Jolie McDuffee said the benefit chose the Douglas County children’s shelter after they found out they won’t be holding their annual poker run fundraiser.
Right now, they’re looking for chili cookers to fire up the pot. The deadline for cookers is Oct. 4. Call 783-5330 for more information.
A new R-C reporter started this week. Rachel Spacek is coming from an internship at the Los Angeles Times after graduating from the Don Reynolds School of Journalism this spring.
She worked on the school’s coverage of the Legislature and served as editor of the UNR Sagebrush.
Rachel hails from the Bay Area, and her previous experience in Douglas County has been on her way to Heavenly for some snowboarding.
She’ll be taking on the county and court beats Amy Alonzo had before she left to cover Yerington for the Mason Valley News.
