A time of celebration for all faiths

by Carolyn Purkiss

Christmas is the time for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ, the savior that God promised. A holy infant that someday would take on himself the sins of mankind paying the price for our salvation and restoring our personal relationship with God; information from Jewish Outreach Institute http://www.joi.org/celebrate/hanuk states, “Hanukkah means ‘dedication,'” and commemorates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after its desecration by foreign forces. The celebration also reaffirms the continuing struggle to live by God’s commandments and to lead Jewish lives.”

The customs we observe during this holy season come from the blending of many cultures; traditions that have been passed down through the generations by people of all races, colors and creeds.

My prayer and hope is that God be with each of you and lead you to Him. Practice your faith, teach your children by your example and attend the church or synagogue of your choice to experience the peace, joy and love of God.

Where there is faith, there is love;

Where there is love, there is peace;

Where there is peace, there is God;

And where there is God; there is no need.

– Leo Tolstoy 1828-1910
