William Grady Mills, Sr., 95 years old, of Gardnerville, NV died peacefully in his sleep on May 28, 2017, after a good and full life.

William was born in Stockton, CA, July 5, 1921 to Grady and Ethel Mills and was an only child. He lived in Stockton until joining the Navy in 1938. He retired from Monteray County in Salinas, CA in 1995.

During his military service he was stationed on the U.S.S. Detroit and reached rank 1st Class Petty Officer. He proudly served at Pearl Harbor when WWII began. He served mostly in the Pacific and Aleutian Islands Campaign in 1942. He earned the Bronze Battle Stars for service at Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Leyte, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, American Defense & Philippines Defense, American Campaign and WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines when WWII ended.

William loved camping, fishing, studying the Bible, pastel portraits, and he had a great interest for history. He took art classes at Hartnell College in Salinas, CA and some of his pictures hung in City Hall, Dr. Will Light’s office in Monteray, CA and the home of the Director of Civil Court, Monteray, CA.

He is survived by two sons, William, Jr. (Claudette) of Nevada and Paul of Arizona; granddaughters, Stacy Mills and Natalie Mills, both of San Francisco, CA.

A memorial will be held at Shadow Mountain Church, 1311 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, NV on Monday, May 19th, 2017
