Stella “Dorie” Pharris

Jan. 10, 1920 ~ Feb. 26, 2017

Stella Dora Pharris, 97, known by all as “Dorie” passed away peacefully Sunday night on February 26th in her home as was her wish.

She was born Stella Dora Strang to Stella and Earl Strang in Bangor, Maine. She is preceded in death by her husband Don Pharris, her sister Edna, 4 of her brothers Philip, Garland, Clifford and Babe. She is survived by her daughter

Nancy Tanabe, her son Gerry Wright, both of Gardnerville, NV and her one surviving brother Bill Strang of Hesperia, CA.

Dorie worked for many years in the restaurant/hotel business. In 1970 she became Head Innkeeper at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center in San Bernadino, CA., one of the few women to hold that position in those days. She held that position for many years until her retirement. It was while there she met the love of her life, Don Pharris. They were happily married until his death in 1988.

The last 30 years she lived in this area, with the last 17 here in Gardnerville. Dorie loved “dressing to the nines”, dancing, parties, bunco, oil painting and especially all things “Red Hat”. She was feisty and fiercely loyal.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held to remember her on April 23rd from 2 to 5 PM at Aspen Park, 1380 Centerville Ln., Gardnerville in the main club house.

She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Don, in Pocatello, ID on Friday, March 24th.
