Ronald Eugene Squires

March 22, 1926 – August 15, 2016

Ronald Eugene Squires passed away at his home in Topaz Lake with all of his children by his side. He was 90 years old.

Ron was born in Tustin, California. He finished high school early so he could join the Navy when he was 17. During his training he was sent to North Dakota where he met Dorothy Wilson. They were married in 1945.

Ronald graduated from Cal Poly, and started teaching Agriculture at Brea High School in Brea, California. They raised their three children in Yorba Linda, California. In 1969 they moved to Reno, Nevada where Ronald taught Ag

Education at UNR and became the head of the Industrial Mechanics Department in the College of Ag until 1983, when he retired and started his own long distance telephone company, Western Telephone and Telecommunications, providing long distance phone service to Northern Nevada.

Ron and Dorothy moved to their “cabin” at Topaz Lake in 1983. Ronald was very active with the Future Farmers of America and the Nevada Ag Foundation. He was also active in the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce for many years. Ron was a retired member of the Topaz Lake Volunteer fire department and attended the Topaz Community Open Bible Church.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Hayden and Edna Squires, his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Squires and his brother, William Squires.

He is survived by his sister Carolyn (Paul) Phypers of Lake Placid, FL; three children, Bruce (Terry) Squires of Corona, CA., Keith (Susan) Squires of Carson City, NV, Ronna (Greg) Hubbard of Topaz Lake, NV. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

There will be a private family service at a later date.
