Richard (Dick) Michael Garren “Grog”

Dick was born in Manhattan, New York to William and Katherine Garren.

Dick moved to California in 1947. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1957, and was a graduate of Diablo Valley College with a degree in Fire Science. Dick was also a 4th degree black belt in Judo.

Dick’s jobs included PGE, Concord Police Dept., Mt. Diablo Unified School District and Electrician. His dream job however was with the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire District, where he worked for 16 years, and retired as Captain.

Dick moved to Nevada in 1980. His loves included flying, hunting, photography, dirt bikes, being with family and friends, and eating lunch with the ROMEOS (retired old men eating out)

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra; Daughter, Deborah (James) McFadden, Gardnerville; Son, Edward (Shawnyne) Garren, Gardnerville. He is also survived by his Sister, Carol Rumbaugh of Montrose, CO and Brother Gary Garren of Montrose, CO, his 6 Grandchildren; Michael, Christopher, Amanda, Zachary, Matthew and Adam and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in November
