Richard Carty passed away peacefully on December 30, 2015 at Gardnerville, Nevada. He was born to Herbert and Marie Carty on February 4, 1926 at the family’s farm home outside Blandinsville, Illinois. He attended a one-room school, followed by graduation from Blandinsville High School. After serving two years in the U.S. Navy he married Lois of Burlington, Iowa on July 1, 1950 after which they made their home in Blandinsville, Illinois. Richard managed the Carty Locker Service until enrolling in DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. Upon graduation as an electronic engineer he was employed by Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Sunnyvale, California. He retired to Gardnerville, Nevada in 1989 after 33 years with Lockheed. He is survived by Lois Carty, his wife of 65 years, his son Jeffrey Carty of South Dakota and two grandsons; Steven and Daniel Carty of Missoula, Montana, his daughter Lisa and son-in-law Edward Smyth and granddaughter Sydney Smyth of San Ramon, California and several nieces and nephews. He was an avid horseman, breeding, training and showing Morgan horses. He continued this avocation until 2002 when he was involved in a near-death accident which precluded his continuing his horse business. In 2005 he moved from Gardnerville to Minden. Mr. Carty has requested that no memorial service be observed.
