Born on October 22, 1926 in Sacramento, California to Kidrick and Josephine Martin, Jack grew up on various ranches throughout California. His family finally ended up on the Pierce Ranch in Fairfield, California where he attended Suisun Valley Elementary School and Armijo High School. He eventually began working for Cal Trans where he worked his way up to Superintendant of Highway 88, which required moving his family to Galt, California. After Ruby’s death in 1993, Jack eventually moved to his son’s ranch in Sprague River, Oregon. While living and working on the ranch, Jack met Rae Ellen Kinney whom he married in 2007 and resided in Klamath Falls until his death.
Jack enjoyed breaking and training horses, and the sport of rodeo. He was a member of the RCA, CCA, ACTRA and Sr. Pro Rodeo Association. Throughout, his rodeo career, Jack competed in calf roping (tie down roping), team roping and steer wrestling. He won many trophy buckles and saddles. Jack also loved fishing, golf and just being in the outdoors.
