Obituary: Alicia Lee Edney

March 18, 1970 – April 9, 2013

Alicia Lee Edney passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 surrounded by her family. She and her father were both victims of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Alicia was born on March 18,1970 in Bishop, California to Janet and Sam Edney. Alicia was preceded in death by her father, Sam Edney; her grandparents, Gladys and Cliff Edney and Ruth and John Barr; and her uncle, Robert Barr.

Alicia grew up in San Diego County, California and Douglas County, Nevada. She graduated from Douglas High School in Minden, Nevada, went to University of California, Santa Cruz and received a Bachelor of Arts from Sacramento State University. She enjoyed her work as a certified aesthetician and massage therapist. She loved working at New Leaf Ayurevda of Sacramento where she treated her clients using the Ayurvedic and Eastern medical model. She was a member of the Ananda Fellowship and enjoyed doing volunteer service at an ashram in the Nevada City area.

Alicia loved her friends, family, and the outdoors. She loved meeting new people, conversation, and traveling. She had many friends around the world. Alicia enjoyed dining out and going to social gatherings. She especially enjoyed her sisters and brother and their many children. Alicia loved to hike. She hiked many trails throughout the west including the Grand Canyon, the Sierra Nevada mountains, Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park, and the coast of California. During her life she traveled the United States including Hawaii and Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, China, and India.

Alicia is survived by her mother, Janet Barr Edney VanderLinden; her stepfather, Michael VanderLinden; her sisters, Michelle VanderLinden Enfield, Tracie VanderLinden, Danielle Edney Bean; her brother, Chad VanderLinden; her aunt, Victoria Barr; her cousins, Sean Barr and David Mosley, and by her many nieces and nephews.

Alicia was a gentle, loving person who radiated light. She truly enjoyed people and life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Alicia at the Jodar Winery in Camino, California at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th.
