Melanie Leigh McKenzie, age 35 of Gardnerville, passed away on September 18, 2016.
Melanie was born January 15, 1981 in Carson City, Nevada, to Michael and Mary McKenzie. Melanie grew up in Gardnerville where she attended elementary, middle (her class was the 1st class to attend Pau Wa Lu), and was a 1999 graduate of Douglas High School.
Shortly after graduating high school, she moved to Southern, CA, where she lived for the next 12 years, before returning to Nevada. During her time in California, Melanie traveled, earned
her cosmetology license, as well as bartended and waitressed.
Melanie’s greatest accomplishment, and the one she took the most pride in, was being a mom to her 4 year old son Cayden.
Melanie enjoyed traveling, hiking, snowboarding, playing and watching sports, and spending time with her family and friends.
Melanie is survived by her son Cayden; her father Michael McKenzie; step-mother Linda McKenzie; step-father Michael Scalmanini; sister’s Monica and Jennifer McKenzie; brother-in-law William Wages; uncle and aunt Butch and Sue Bohlender; cousin Travis Bohlender; nephew Hunter Simpson; niece Kyleigh Trahan, as well as countless friends.
Melanie’s laughter and love for life will be missed by us all. She experienced so much and lived life to the fullest, in her short time here on this earth.
We lost an amazing person, but she left her mark, and she will never be forgotton.
Melanie’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am at Life Point Church, located at 1095 Stephanie Way, Minden, NV 89423 on Saturday, October 22nd, a reception will follow at Bently Science Park. We ask that you do not wear black,
Melanie had such a colorful personality and we want to honor that.
