May 27, 2015 – Lisa Kathleen Durgin, beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, in Carson City NV after a short courageous battle with cancer.Lisa was the daughter of John Michael and Nannina Lincoln Durgin, born January 5, 1958 in Geneva NY. Her childhood was spent in Geneva, West Hartford and New Caanan CT. and Kennebunk ME. From a young age, she loved life, nature, and helping others. She enjoyed being “nurse Nancy” and Ann Landers to her friends, listening and deepening her relationships all her life. She was active as cheerleader, a majorette with the band, sang in the school chorus, and graduated with the class of 1976, where she made many life-long friends. Although she lived on St. John VI., she kept in touch with her lively class and teachers, and attended as many reunions as she could. She was close to family members, remembering special events, visiting as often as possible, and sharing her island home with family and friends. The telephone was her constant companion. After graduating from Hartford College for Women with an Associate degree, and from the University of Hartford with a BA, she headed to St John with classmates. Soon afterwards she met her partner and husband, Robert Conn, and settled in to make the island their home. While there she got her real estate license, and later founded her villa management business, Vacation Vistas, which she ran until earlier this year. Her caring and professional staff is continuing her legacy. Lisa touched the lives of so many, from all walks of life. She valued each person who came into her life, and she became a sister, friend and confidant to many. Lisa immersed herself in the community, contributing to the local businesses, schools, church and fund-raising events. She supported and worked with VI Tourism, Pine Peace School, the Chocolate Hole Association, the Animal Shelter and local artists. She was a conscientious protector of the environment. She loved singing with the St. John Singers, joining in karaoke nights, walking the island trails with friends and her dog, exercising regularly, photographing island flora and fauna, and meeting with her Thursday night group. Lisa was a great cook, and would whip up a dish to share at any event, with her Unitarian Universalist Fellowship members and at friends’ celebrations. Lisa and Bob enjoyed traveling and planned vacations to the Minden/Gardnerville/Genoa area in Nevada, and bought a home there in 2003. She and Bob were flown back to their home with Lilly, her German Shepherd service dog, after two months in Houston for her treatments. All three were welcomed by their many friends in Nevada. She was active in this community also, visiting the local farmers markets, and canning and preserving nature’s bounty.
