John Wesley Caulkins

John Wesley Caulkins passed into eternal life with his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, of natural causes at the age of 86.

He was born to Fred Isaac and Clara Shauver Caulkins on December 23, 1930 in Van Nuys, CA. John graduated from Phoenix High School in 1949 and went on to attend Southern Oregon State University and graduated from Los Angeles Pierce College. John joined the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) and served five years during the Korean War.

In 1959, John married his childhood sweetheart, Kay Donna Dudley of Phoenix, OR. They had three children, Jeffrey, Brian and Michele. John and Kay later moved to Canoga Park, CA where John was a very active Scoutmaster of Troop 505 backpack troop at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. John mentored 20 Eagle Scouts and led the Troop to the top of Mt. Whitney three times during his tenure as Scout Leader. He later became District Commissioner of San Fernando Valley Council Boy Scouts of America.

After the Bel Air fire, John founded Caulkins Construction Co., specializing in fire reconstruction. John served as President of the Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce and was a member of Mayor Tom Bradley’s Small Business Committee and the Board of Transportation for the City of Los Angeles.

In 1988, John met and married Beverly B. Quaintance, of Westlake Village, CA, and added her two sons, Kevin and Timothy Quaintance to his family. John and Beverly retired in 1999 to Minden, NV. where he served as an Elder at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City, NV and was past President of Winhaven Homeowners Association.

Preceding him in death were Kay Dudley Caulkins, six brothers and sisters, and one grandchild.

John leaves behind his wife Beverly, children Jeffrey (Marie), Brian (Sandra), Michele (Taggert) Howland, Kevin (Eileen) Quaintance and Timothy (Anne) Quaintance and nine grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Walton Funeral Home at 1521 Church Street, Gardnerville, Nevada, from 5-6pm on Saturday, June 24th.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 25th at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. Burial will be held following the service at Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville, Nevada.
