Joe Y. Lopez
Nov 15, 1953 – Feb 12, 2017
The Carson Valley lost longtime resident Joe Y. Lopez on Sunday, February 12th, 2017 due to complications of diabetes. Joe was born to Esther and Joe Sr. in Torrance, California on November 15, 1953. Joe came to the Valley in 1980 from the South Bay area of Southern California where he was born, schooled and employed.
Joe was intelligent, outgoing, friendly, and touched the lives of many people in the Valley. He was a founder of the Carson Valley darting movement in the early 80’s, and was a Carson Valley Girls Softball umpire in the 80’s through the early 2000’s. He also founded and administrated the Valley’s first Fantasy Football League. While employed at Bently Nevada, for more than a decade, he made several long-time friends.
Joe was a dedicated family man, raising his children, Natalie and Sparky, in the Valley. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, Diego and Indy, and with his mother, Esther. Joe was also a great friend, the kind that listened and then offered an opinion, of which he had many.
Joe’s passing leaves an unfillable hole in the hearts of his numerous friends and surviving family members: mother Esther Lopez of Gardnerville, NV; daughter Natalie Lopez Gutierrez of Ventura, CA; son Sparky Lopez of Gardnerville, NV; brother Henry Lopez of Carson, CA; brother Jimmie Lopez of Gilroy, CA; and numerous other relatives, who were also a big part of who Joe was. During the past few trying years, his neighbor Bobbi, friends, and family chipped in to help make life better for Joe, and now he is preparing the afterlife for our arrival.
A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held at noon, on March 25, 2017, at the Aspen Park Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 1350 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, Nevada.
More information on the celebration is available by contacting Ron Haskins at 775/781-7718 or Natalie Lopez at 425/387-3961.
