James Joseph Keegan.
November 27, 1929 – September 5, 2016.
Jim passed peacefully at home attended by his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Christina; his six children, James Jr., Nancy, Kathleen, Phillip, Peter, and Christina; his six grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Mary, Michaella, Megan, and Conrad; and his brother, Mike.
Jim was born in Philadelphia where he attended St. Francis de Sales Parochial School. He served overseas in the U.S.A.F. during the Korean War and upon his return earned a B.S. in Economics at St. Joseph’s University. His thirty-four year career spanned the course of the manned-space program, during which he received commendation by a Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist.
Jim retired to the Carson Valley, where he served on the Douglas County School Board and enjoyed a second career as a real estate developer.
Jim loved athletics, both as a participant and spectator. Jim was an avid runner and sub 3-hour marathoner. He shared his love of skiing with his children and continued to make turns at Kirkwood into his late seventies.
Jim believed that nothing is impossible if you never give up.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on October 7, 2016, at St. Gall Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research are welcomed.
