Ellen Syatauw, 86, passed away peacefully in Fremont, CA.
Ellen (Mama/Oma) was born in Pekalongan, Indonesia and as a child survived the Japanese concentration camp during WWII in Indonesia.
In 1960, the family immigrated to the United States and raised five children in Fremont, CA. She later retired as a registered nurse from Kaiser Permanente and enjoyed her retirement with her husband of 63 years.
She lived in Gardnerville for 8 years and loved to watch the sunset and sunrise over the Sierras.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her son Frank, her sister Janet Ross, and her son-in-law Ed Tanaka.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Tanaka, Ariane Walter and her husband Michael, Marcia Parten and her husband Jeff; and her son Bart Syatauw and his wife Dawn; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Evie Paulides and many nieces and nephews in Holland and Indonesia.
We will always remember her resilience, strength and especially her humor, laughter and beautiful smile. Love you Mama.
