Virginia “Ginger” Craik passed on May 9. She moved to Alpine County in 1973 with her husband Cam and two children John and Kelly.
Ginger taught at Diamond Valley School and the Opportunity School at Hung A Lel Ti for many years. She taught up to 3 generations of children. She spent time after school and on weekends taking students to San Francisco, Sacramento and other places so they could see and experience large cities. She tutored anyone who wanted extra help with class work regardless of their age. After she retired in 2009, she volunteered at Diamond Valley School until about 2 months before she died.
Ginger was always willing to help people. Whether that was tutoring, helping with research, paperwork, or any other way she could. Ginger believed in supporting local whenever she could. She felt supporting the locals was important, whether that was a business, family or individual.
Ginger was involved in many community organizations, donating her time. A few of these are Alpine Watershed, Markleeville Library, and The Carson Pass Visitors Center. She enjoyed being outdoors walking and hiking. One of her favorite places to walk was Faith Valley.
While the family is not having a service at this time at Gingers request, there will be a Celebration of Life on August 30 at the gym at Hung A Lel Ti (more details to come). Ginger liked the idea of people going for a walk or taking a hike and thinking of her. In lieu of any flowers, please consider supporting one of the following charities (or one of your choosing) in her memory. Those are: Alpine Kids, DAWG (Gardnerville), The Food Closet (Carson Valley) and Animal Rescue Relay.
Ginger is survived by her daughter Kelly (Clark), daughter in law Lorraine, grandchildren Ethan and Kenny, and 4 siblings.
Thank you all for being a part of Gingers journey. She will be missed.
