Wayne Mills, a longtime Douglas County resident and
former owner of the beloved Hamdog’s restaurant,
passed away peacefully at the age of 83.
Born and raised in Maryland, Wayne had an adventurous
spirit from an early age. He joined the U.S. Air Force as
a young man and proudly served his country for over
a decade, including during the Vietnam War. After his
military service, Wayne explored various career paths,
always guided by a love of travel, trying new foods, and
meeting people from all walks of life.
In the 1980s, Wayne found his forever home in Douglas
County, Nevada. After marrying the love of his life, Nenita,
the two opened Hamdog’s in the 1990s. The restaurant
quickly became a staple in the community, known not
just for its unique menu, but for the warm and welcoming
environment Wayne helped foster. For over 20 years,
Hamdog’s served countless residents, and Wayne’s
presence there became a cherished part of the
local experience.
Beyond his work, Wayne was deeply involved in the
community. Whether supporting local events, engaging
with neighbors, or simply offering a friendly conversation,
he believed in giving back and staying connected.
Wayne is survived by his devoted wife Nenita, his
daughter, and his grandchild, all of whom carry forward
his legacy of warmth, generosity, and service. He will be
deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A service honoring Wayne’s life will be held on
Wednesday, May 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the
Veteran’s Cemetery, located at 14 Veterans Way,
Fernley, NV 89408.
