Bonnie Ruth Bender

July 23, 1941 - May 24,2025

Growing up in Bellflower, California, Bonnie Ruth Bender approached life with kindness, positivity, and an ever-present smile. Born July 23, 1941, to Paul and Rachel Omohundro, she
was a natural performer from childhood through high school. Bonnie’s talents ranged from arts and crafts to baton twirling at Rancho Alamitos High School and hula dancing in Hawaii.
She also enjoyed playing the accordion and bowling.

Bonnie’s love for fun and learning continued throughout her education at Cerritos Jr. College, the University of Hawaii, and San Jose State University. Just before traveling abroad to Europe to explore the world, Bonnie met the love of her life, Lee Bender, in March 1965. Upon returning from her adventures, Lee and Bonnie married on September 17, 1965, in Anaheim, California. Their loving union of 59 years was blessed with their son, Justin.

Bonnie was gifted at building lasting friendships wherever she went. Her Monday Night Football gatherings and scrapbooking circles were always lively affairs. As a Human Resource Director for her family’s manufacturing business, she brought the same warmth and positivity to her professional life that she shared with everyone. When the business relocated to Nevada, Bonnie, Lee, and Justin moved from Long Beach to Minden, following her brother Tom who had moved the company there. She loved playing golf, found great joy in camping with her family and exploring nature’s beauty with those she cared about.

As a mother and grandmother, she filled every day with warmth, patience, and genuine joy, making even the simplest moments feel special. When Alzheimer’s disease became part of her journey, Bonnie faced it with remarkable grace. Bonnie continued to form bonds and relationships with those that cared for her throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She found strength and comfort in engaging with her caregivers, listening to music, and
socializing with those around her, always with a smile.

On May 24, 2025, at age 83, Bonnie passed away peacefully with her beloved husband Lee by her side and surrounded by family.

She is survived by her husband Lee, son Justin, his wife Katey, and their granddaughters Brooke and Brynn, Bonnie’s brother Tom, his wife Gail, and several nieces and nephews.

Her memory lives on in the countless people whose lives were brighter simply because they knew her. Bonnie proved that the greatest gift we can give is genuine kindness and an optimistic spirit that lifts others up. The Bible best describes Bonnie in Proverbs 31:10-30.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 26th at 11:00 am at High Sierra Fellowship in Gardnerville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local Alzheimer’s Association.
