Frederick Earl Richards

November 24, 1942 - December 30,2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Frederick Earl Richards, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong resident of Carson City, Nevada. Fred passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at the age of 82.

Fred was born on November 24, 1942, to Earl and Fran Richards, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; daughters Debra and Dana; grandson Derek Hawkins (Doni); and six great- grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Danette Rice, and his grandson, Ryan Hawkins.

Fred devoted much of his life to serving his community. He began his career with the Carson City Fire Department as a volunteer in the early 1960s and went on to have a distinguished career as a dedicated firefighter. He was an active member of the International Association of
Fire Fighters and took great pride in mentoring future generations of firefighters. Fred’s commitment to service was matched only by his love for his hometown of Carson City, where he lived his entire life.

Fred was passionate about education. He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science and continued his studies well into retirement, taking courses at Western Nevada Community College and Truckee Meadows Community College.

A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City, Fred cherished his faith. Each morning, he spent time in prayer and reading the Word of God, finding strength and peace in his devotion.

Fred’s interests outside of work and study included many beloved hobbies. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Tahoe with his father, skiing with Jeanne and their daughters, and attending baseball games. He was a devoted fan of the Oakland A’s and cherished the memories of watching
games with fellow firefighters. He also spent countless hours cheering on his grandson, Derek, at little league games at Governor’s Field.

Fred’s legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local community college. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.
