Curtis was born in Altadena Calif. He was raised in Long Beach Calif and graduated from Millikan High School. Curtis spent several years in the car business. Owning his own dealership “Apollo Motors Used Cars” in Garden Grove Calif. Careers changed when friends encouraged him to enter a singing contest.
He won from there he was busy doing all sorts of musical/entertainment venues. Meeting Sonja in 1997 and marrying in December 1999. They became a duet known as Curtis Dale and Sonja de. Their musical/entertainment journey ranged from Gospel concerts to dances and
dinner shows for the Elks and Shriners; weddings; USO shows; Christmas programs; Open house; a summer contract with Oak Glen Resort in So. Calif. Working with the Retirement Center’s and Memory Care became a Special highlight for them. Bringing such joy to the
residence was very meaningful and a real blessing.
In 2001 Curtis started a new business to fill in when he was not singing. He became known to many folks in and around the Carson City and outlying areas as “Affordable Handyman Curtis.” He loved being with people and treasured the many friendships that both businesses brought into his life.
Any time left over from those businesses you could find him on the Gold Course. Although his golf score was not always to his liking, the friends he made there held a special place in his heart. Cruising was another favorite. Both Curtis and Sonja enjoyed that wonderful friends they cruised with. Meeting cruising buddy Fred at midnight at Johnny Rockets or the Chocolate Explosion was a special delight. As was seeing the great beauty of God’s handy work across our nation.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Edward Radig, his brother Gary Radig and his son Curtis Jr. Curtis is survived by his loving wife Sonja, stepchildren Bret Douglas Robin), and Cindy Torres (Chris), as well as 3 granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren.
Curtis was an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Carson City. The family is extremely grateful for the faithful support of our church family as his Alzheimer’s progressed. Also, for the exceptional help and compassion provided by A+ Hospice and the private
medical personal that were so kind and professional in seeing to his every need with gentle hands and loving words. Curtis’ desire was to be at home and because of their wonderful care he was able to pass peacefully with his loving wife by his side.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 25th at 10.am. at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 115 N. Division; Carson City, NV 89703. Any donation to the 1st Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund in his name is appreciated.
