Daniel P. (Dan) Gordon 78, passed away on February 2, 2022, at Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City, Nevada. He had struggled with multiple conditions caused by diabetes. His wife and son were by his side.
Dan was born on January 21, 1944, at his grandmother’s home in South-Central Los Angeles. He was raised by his mother, Velma Bassett, and his grandmother, Alice Bassett. Over the course of his childhood, he lived in many cities and towns, finding himself in Round Mountain, Nevada, where he attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. This is where he developed his love of nature and the outdoors. Eventually, he moved to Las Vegas, where he graduated from Las Vegas High School. After graduation, he relocated to Los Angeles where he worked for the Welch’s Candy Company.
On a Spring Day in 1962, he met the love of his life, Jackie Connelly, who lived two doors down from his aunt and uncle in Bellflower, California. On July 2, 1966, Dan and Jackie were married. They lived in Downey, California in a one-bedroom furnished apartment. They owned a black & white TV and a car, and not much else.
In 1969, Dan began a career in Telecommunications with Pacific Telephone. The break-up of A.T. & T. lead him to Lucent Technologies where he completed 30 years of service in that industry. As a Systems Technician, he was part of the leading edge of the digital transformation.
After retirement in 1999, Dan found his new home in Carson City. He was sustained by the beauty of Northern Nevada, the distinct four seasons, and the beautiful Lake Tahoe. Dan loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, and golf. He never missed a game-day for his children who participated in baseball and/or football. He gained many lasting and longtime friends through all of these activities.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jackie Gordon, his children Michele Inskeep (Dustin), Eric Gordon (Lucy), his sister Alice Patton, his grandchildren, Gianna, Anthony, and Luna (Lali), along with cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Mountain Vista Baptist Church, 1750 Mountain St. Carson City, NV, 89703.
