Donald James Cummings Sr. U.S. Veteran

November 5, 1937 - January 17, 2022

Our beloved Father and Husband Donald James Cummings Sr. passed away after a lengthy illness, on January 17, 2022, in Reno, Nevada at the age of 84. He was born to Mercedes Quesada and Percy Cummings on November 5, 1937, in Fresno, California.

Don grew up in San Jose, California working on his stepfather’s ranch. When he was 17, Don enlisted and served in the United States Marines Corps. After serving in the military, Don worked for Sears Department Store for many years as the credit manager.

In 1974 he, his wife Linda and their two children moved to Carson City, Nevada where they purchased and ran a 7-11 store on Long Street in Carson City. They later sold the store and purchased Automated Accounts and Associates, which they successfully ran for a number of years in Carson City.

Don and Linda relocated to Dayton Nevada in 1978. In 1984, Don successfully ran for election for Lyon County Commissioner in District 1 and served two terms from 1985 to 1992. As County Commissioner Don helped oversee the emergency response in Lyon County during the historic flood of 1986.

Don remarried in 2012 and is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughter Cassandra Jackson (Randy), his son Don Cummings Jr. (Kim), and sister Anita Pereira. He is also survived by grandchildren, Tony Jackson (Lezlee), Christopher Jackson (Sarah) and Megan Cortinas (Joey) and great-granddaughter Svea Cortinas.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Walton’s Funerals and Cremations, located at 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks, Nevada.

Burial will follow at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 14 Veterans Way, in Fernley, Nevada.
