Donald A Chamberlain

August 23, 1951 - January 19, 2022

In Memory of Donald A. Chamberlain

Don (Rocky) passed on January 19th, 2022 after an extended hospital stay. He was born in Richmond, Ca. on August 23, 1951 to parents Ken and Zelda Chamberlain. He was 4 yrs. old when the family moved and his Dad started with the Sparks Fire Dept.

His lifelong love of trucks may have started then, when his Dad proudly had him at the station whenever he could. He retired from NDOT hauling heavy equipment, but only after starting driving logging trucks, long haul shipping, hay trucks out of Smith Valley, and milk for the Nevada Dairy Assoc. doing the local dairy farm milk pick up. Laughing, he would describe the “ultimate comfort of a hydraulic seat” with NDOT from the padded wood of the old logging trucks.

The memory that will remain, was his intense and constant concern for the safety of others
while behind the wheel. As a driving professional, he respected and skillfully traveled hundreds of thousands of miles; over every imaginable climate and terrain while always being mindful of the extreme need for mechanical perfection and total concentration. He never missed an opportunity to lift a hood or check our tires or caution family of the need to navigate safely around big rigs.

He enjoyed his final years with his wife of 32 years; Nelda in Minden. They loved regular trips trailering to camp at Turtle Rock until health problems limited his travel.

He leaves his wife Nelda, step sons Frank and Bob Risner, Grandson Jackson, his brother Mark and wife Jayme. His sister Coral and husband Artie, his sister in law Goldia and her husband Brent, as well as nieces and nephews Troy, Kim, Jacob, Kirsten, Austin, Hailey and Kiley, Janelle, Jeremy, Natalie with numerous great nieces and nephews.

Every visit, no matter who or when; the last words were, “I Love You, Goodbye and Drive Safe.”
