“Kindness”

Judy (Joy) Thomas, Born March 15, 1950, in San Bernardino, Ca.—Passed on April 4, 2022, in Gardnerville, NV. after a courageous month’s long battle with Stage 4 Kidney cancer.

Judy was born to Willard and Lorraine Joy and is survived by three siblings, Sandy McConachie, Cindy Sampson (Keith), and Robert Joy (Angie) as well as her husband of 50 years, David Thomas, her son, Ben Thomas, several nieces and nephews and Gracie, her Jack Russell.

Judy graduated from Ramona High School in Riverside, Ca. in 1968 and Riverside Community College in 1970 where she was homecoming queen, was a contestant on the Dating Game and the Newlywed Game. She worked for Bank of America for 20 years, the State of Nevada in several capacities, and together with her husband owned and operated Carson Valley Garden and Ranch Center for 8 years before retiring.

In retirement, she volunteered for East Fork Fire Dept. as a member of the Topaz Lake Volunteer Fire Department and was a driving force for 18 years behind their annual community fundraising Labor Day Bar-B-Que. She was a member of the Topaz Sage Hens, Sertoma, Douglas County CERT, as well as the DCSO Good Neighbors, and found her real passion in gardening and painting kindness rocks and distributing them throughout the community under the moniker “JT”.

She was a tremendous homemaker and with Dave enjoyed traveling, hanging out with each other and their son and camping in their motor home particularly with friends, and was able to travel the western states in the last years.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Walton’s Funeral and Cremation and a remembrance celebration of her love, sincerity, integrity, friendship and above all else, kindness, will be held soon.

Those wishing to, please feel free to donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her name.

“Heaven has gained a bright and kind angel.” She was a true friend and a remarkable woman to many. We are all truly blessed to have had the honor of having her in our lives!
