Shirley Lois Lundergreen Jones

November 2, 1929 - October 27, 2021

Shirley passed away peacefully at the age of 91 with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

Shirley was born (5th of 6) in the Lundergreen farmhouse in Mottsville. Later the family moved to Centerville. She was raised in the Carson Valley except for two years while attending the University of Nevada. She pledged to the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was an active, alumni of UNR and supported the University by holding season tickets for many, many years to the football and basketball programs.

She worked as a bookkeeper for the Ford Garage in Gardnerville, then as a bookkeeper for John A Doane, Richfield Oil Distributor in Minden. After that, she was hired by Gene Felton at the First Interstate Bank of Nevada which eventually became Wells Fargo Bank. She worked at the bank for over 20 years.

During her working years she met and married Edward W Jones May 10, 1953. They spent the next 36 years enjoying the beauty of the Carson Valley as well as camping, fishing and traveling. Ed passed in 1989. She retired in 1995 and after her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Douglas County Library. She also enjoyed her close relationship with her Cordes Cousins Club. Shirley loved gardening, walking her dogs, sharing time with family and friends. She was an avid bridge player for many years, and she belonged to many service clubs in the valley. Shirley loved to travel but always loved coming home to the valley and Sierras that she loved so much.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Bertha Lundergreen, her husband Ed, brothers Grant, Fritz, and John and sisters Alice and Ruth.

Shirley is survived by her sister -in -law Loretta (John), eight nieces and nephews, Terry Weckerle, David and Rod Lundergreen, Mary Nagel, Frances and Charlie Spikes, Joe Lundergreen and Sonja Graham, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a wonderful person, loving Aunt, Sister- in -law, friend and neighbor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church,1480 Douglas Ave., in Gardnerville will be held on December 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please give donations in her name to the Douglas County Historical Society (endowment fund) or the Trinity Lutheran Church, of which Shirley was a member her entire life.
