Young Chautauquans program to restart in January
The Carson Valley Young Chautauquan program will begin its second year with an informational meeting at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at 7 p.m. Then, the group will meet for workshops and practice every other Tuesday night until mid-June.
The modern Chautauqua presentation is designed to educate and inform, as well as entertain. It consists of three parts. First, the presenter portrays a historical character; second, the audience questions the presenter; and third, the presenter comes out of character to answer questions from the audience.
Participants will choose characters from history and research and portray. The official presentations of their characters will be at the Snowshoe Thompson Festival in Genoa June 23 and 24, 2001, although each participant will also give three presentations before that time.
The program is open to students in the 4th through 12th grades.
