Woman killed in Washoe Valley wreck
A woman was killed in a traffic accident that occurred in Washoe Valley early Friday morning.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the woman was a passenger in a pickup driven by Oscar Esparza, 50, of Sparks, when the vehicle left the southbound travel lanes north of Bellevue Drive.
The white Dodge pickup overturned flinging both Esparza and the woman from the cab, then landed back on its wheels and crossed the southbound lanes before coming to a stop on the west side of the field.
The accident was reported at 6:12 a.m., when troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched.
Esparza was transported to a local Reno hospital by Care Flight.
NHP spokesman Duncan Dauber said it is believed that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and impairment is under investigation at this time.
The highway in the area of the crash is a four-lane highway. There is a dirt median separating both directions of travel and the speed limit is posted at 70 mph.
Trooper Karen Garretson of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating this incident.
