WNCC offers first two years of education degree

Staff reports

Western Nevada Community College’s new course offerings for fall 1997 will allow students wanting to major in education to complete their first two years at WNCC. Students will then finish their degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno.

An agreement between the two schools that the courses direct equivalents, allows students to save tuition by attending WNCC, where courses cost only $38 per credit as compared to UNR at $66.50 per credit.

This fall, the WNCC class schedule includes four courses directly transferable to the UNR College of Education: Introduction to Elementary Education, (C&I 160); Information Technology in Teaching, (CEP 210); Educational Experience I, (EL 101); and Introduction to Language and Literary Expression, (ENG 282).

These courses count toward one or more majors at UNR and are part of a 2 + 2 degree relationship with WNCC. The majors are bachelor degrees in education with an emphasis in elementary education, special education, dual elementary/special education, and secondary education.

Those interested in the education courses should call the WNCC Academic Affairs Office at 887-3052, or WNCC Counseling Services at 887-3107.

Students can register for fall classes now by Touch-Tone Telephone Registration. Those in the Carson City area may call 887-3130. Those in outlying areas may call 1-800-748-5690. TTTR normally operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and weekends from noon to 6 p.m., excluding holidays.
