WNCC classes start June 8; get info on the Net

Summer session at Western Nevada Community College begins June 8. Classes run for varying lengths of time, with most three-credit courses finishing July 31.

Offerings for the summer session at Douglas campus range from sign language to drawing and painting, and English, geography and math to political science.

In addition a full range of computer classes and Saturday workshops are available.

Of special interest is a new week-long “College for Kids” workshop. Taught Monday through Thursday, the course offers youths in grades 3 through 6 a head start on their middle and high school computer competencies, said technology instructor Leonard MacKey.

Information concerning registration and the schedule for the main campus can be obtained on the internet at http://www.scs.unr.edu/wncc and the summer schedule and additional information for the Douglas campus is available at http://www.scs.unr.edu/wncc/douglas or by calling the Douglas office at 782-2413 Monday though Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Western Nevada Community College Douglas offers a variety of courses to chase the summer doldrums away. The Douglas summer 1998 course schedule includes courses from computer classes for adults and children to political science.

They include:

Fingerspelling II (AM 152 D01) meets June 15-30, Mon.-Thur. from 5:30-7 p.m. at Bently Hall, room 104. This one-credit course teaches Fingerspelling, one of many integrated methods to converse with hearing impaired people.

Computer Literacy (CIS 101 D01) meets Mon. and Wed. from 6-8:40 p.m., June 8 through July 29 at Bently Hall in the computer lab. Learn the basics of computer operations, applications and capabilities. This is a three-credit, university transfer course.

PC Operations (CIS 145 D01) meets Tuesday and Thur. June 9 through July 30, from 6-8:40 p.m. at the Bently Hall computer lab. This three-credit university transfer course covers disk operating functions and commands that are valuable or necessary in a computer information systems environment.

Students may call WNCC from any touch-tone telephone to register for any credit class. Touch-tone Telephone Registration will also continue throughout late registration and the summer session for students who need to drop classes. Those in the Minden/Gardnerville or Carson City area may call WNCC at 887-3130. Long distance callers may use 1-800-748-5690.

TTTR will normally operate weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and weekdays from noon to 6 p.m., excluding holidays. WNCC summer operating hours are Mon. through Thur., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
